What is sublimation ink?
Sublimation print ink is a specialized dye-based ink designed for sublimation printing, a process that transfers vibrant, high-quality designs onto materials like polyester fabrics, ceramics, and other coated hard surfaces. When heated, sublimation ink turns into a gas and bonds with the substrate, creating a permanent, full-color print that won’t crack, peel, or fade over time. This makes it a popular choice for customized apparel, mugs, tumblers, and other promotional products. To get the best results, sublimation print ink must be used with compatible sublimation printers, paper, and heat machines.
Can you use sublimation ink for regular printing?
No, sublimation ink cannot be used for regular printing on standard paper. Unlike traditional inkjet ink, sublimation print ink is designed to turn into a gas when heated, bonding with polyester-coated surfaces rather than sitting on top of paper. If used for regular printing, the colors may appear dull, a compatible sublimation printer and heat press to transfer designs effectively. For standard document printing, it’s best to use traditional inkjet or laser printer ink.
