What should you not laser engrave?

There are certain materials you should avoid using in your laser engraver. The first material is anything that contains PVC because it releases a harmful gas that can cause damage to your equipment and your health. Using ABS plastic in a laser engraver is also not a good fit because of fumes and melting. However, we offer a large range of ABS materials that are suitable for use in rotary engravers. However, Rowmark manufactures an ABS material that is laser safe, called EcoMark.

While this may sound scary and overwhelming, we've made it simple to ensure your materials are laser-safe. Additionally, be sure you're using a ventilation system and that you have a safety plan in place.

Can you engrave on colored acrylic?

Yes! There are a few ways you can add color to engraved acrylic. The first option is using an acrylic that already has a colored pigment added to it - this material could be a single layer or multi-layer sheet with multiple colors. You can also use paint fill or reverse-engrave acrylics to add color to your projects. In addition to colored acrylics, there are several other material options for colorful engravings like UV-printing, pre-stained wood, anodized metals, and faux-leather.
