What is the difference between swing-away and clam heat press?
A swing-away heat press, like the Geo Knight heat press, swings completely away from the bottom platen. This makes it much easier to access the work area and avoid the hot platen as well as gives the user more consistent, even pressure for a higher-quality print.
The main difference between swing-away and clam shell heat presses is how they open. A clam heat press is hinged at the back, giving it the clam shell name. This type of press is often an accessible price point and compact. However, it may give you less even pressure and temperature and increase the risk of burns.

- Its okay!0 people found this helpfulI wanted to love this heat press its well made great all around heat stability. Everyone talks about this as being the best one. Just dont understand why the handle doesnt stay closed and you have to stand there and hold the handle for everything I press. Makes no sense. 15 years ago I started with a Hix heat press lasted 11 years. Since I had the insta which broke within 15 months, endura press its okay not the best quality for sure. Then this one but since the day I purchased it a couple years ago we have to hold the handle every time we close it as it pops up. They dont make them like they used to. I reached out to the manufacturer about this issue to see why it does this but have not ever heard back! So if this is the case it is extremely painful to hold it if you have arthritis or any hand or arm issues especially on those 7 minute presses.
